Benefits of Meditation and Mindfulness
In meditation, we learn to quiet the mind, control the breathing and relax. You are familiar with the constant internal chatter that goes on inside your mind all day. In meditation, we choose a single focus to still the mind and allow the body to relax, slowing the breath and heart rate for optimal relaxation and focus. Mindful practice allows us to take our time, and pay attention to the here and now, notice what is going on around us, and experience life in a more calm, focused and pleasant state. Meditation and mindful practice is not a religious practice, but a spiritual journey that anyone may adopt, to raise our spiritual awareness.
Individual Attention: Your teacher will guide you through gentle deep breathing and relaxation exercises, step-by-step, to still the internal chatter of your mind. You will learn about a variety of approaches to meditation, to experience what works best for you. Reserve your individual session or group meditation here. Tailor the class for your goals: optimal health, spiritual connection, chakra balancing, pain management, stress reduction, decision-making, and special practice for healers.

When I was a student in massage school in 1991 I met a great hands on physical therapist named Theresa Schmidt at the New York State Society of Medical Massage Therapist Convention that I was attending in the Catskill mountains in upstate New York. I was so inspired by watching the way she worked that I signed up to take her Myofascial Release Four day seminar at the AMTA Massage Convention . It was the best decision I ever made. I gained a lot of insight on how to assess the body, treat specific areas, and most important to how work without causing injury to yourself. I have known Theresa for over twenty years and have taken many of her massage classes as well as benefited from one on one hands on tutorials with her. When I had ACL surgery in 1995 on my right knee Theresa was my PT and responsible for helping me recover to a full functional level. As a teacher myself in a College Massage Therapy program and a massage professional that interacts with other healthcare professionals, I encourage all my student, fellow massage therapists, physical therapists and other health professionals I come in contact with to take the opportunity to study with Theresa when she is teaching in the area. Theresa is an exceptional well trained physical therapist, massage therapist, educator and treatment specialist. Her knowledge of the human body, assessment, treatment skills and hands on approach have been a major influence in my development and success as a massage therapy professional and educator. I value her integrative credibility as both a healthcare practitioner, & educator. I have a tremendous respect for Dr. Theresa Schmidt and honor our longtime friendship.

SHAMANISM AND JOURNEYING
What is Shamanism?
The ancient traditions of shamanism come forth from continents around the globe, a gift of healing and a spiritual way of life that has been passed down for generations. Shamanism is a practice that teaches us how to connect to our spiritual side and to Nature for guidance and to promote the well-being of all creation. Shamans use a method known as Journeying, a special type of meditative or dreamlike state in which they access information not typically accessed in ordinary reality. During the Journey, the shaman has first-hand experience in perceiving spiritual or non-ordinary information for the benefit of an individual or the community, to help with problem-solving, provide compassionate assistance, and to facilitate spiritual, mental or physical health and well-being. Shamans access compassionate Guidance from the Spiritual world, and share their knowledge with people who seek their help. Shamanism is not a religion, it is a spiritual practice that complements one’s spiritual path. Shamans use a variety of practices to promote harmony and balance, including journeying, sacred ceremony, singing, drumming, dance, and pilgrimages to power locations in Nature. For centuries, people have gathered to share sacred drumming circles, where we connect with others on the spiritual path, celebrate, share life stories, and journey together.
Anthropologist Michael Harner has published extensively on the shamanic way of life, and provides courses for practical application of shamanic traditions and practices. As a student of his Foundation for Shamanic Studies, Dr. Schmidt includes shamanic ceremony, drumming circles and journeying as part of her approach to promoting health and well-being with her clients.
What Benefits Does a Shamanic Journey Bring?
Journeying allows you to connect with Spirit in a powerful way, accessing guides and resources which may provide solutions to problems and answers to questions. Experience sacred ceremony, engage the magic of your dreams, energize your mind, body and heart to empower your goals. Learn how to achieve balance and harmony with Nature and the world around you, as well as within you. Contact us about the monthly Drumming Circles to meet and share sacred space with others on the path, or experience the magic of an individual journey session for your Self!
Personal journey sessions are available for 30 minutes to 90 minutes. Drumming circles and group journeys usually run for 60-90 minutes.
To join our circle contact us.
We invite you to the June Journey Circle for shamanic journeyers! It is a great opportunity to unite with others to promote healing and access wisdom from non-ordinary reality, with our compassionate helping spirits. The Journey is a form of guided meditation with a specific intention and focus. A rotating host leads the circle each month. If this is your first time joining us, you may want to know what to expect and what to bring. We gather together (see calendar for time and date each month) in order to smudge one another (incense) and then create sacred space. Please arrive on time, so that we can build a sound container for the work. Then the journeying begins! Please bring a drum or rattle if you have one, a blanket, yoga mat, pillow, and whatever else you need to be comfortable journeying. Please bring a journal and pen to record your journeying results.
At the end of our work we enjoy snacks, so please bring anything you’d like to share. Those who can afford to donate to support the Circle will have an opportunity to do so.

Do consult a professional licensed psychologist, psychiatrist, or social worker who can properly diagnose and treat you. Our spiritual coach is an ordained interfaith minister and shamanic practitioner who works with the here and now to empower you spiritually. Energy moves from spirit into matter, beginning with thought. Thoughts are things. Decide what things you want to manifest in life by adding the energy of positive emotion and spirit for a meaningful and fulfilling, happier life.
I only have the highest praise for Doctor Theresa’s ability to get to the bottom of what is hurting and help it heal. She is a thorough, caring and talented medical professional whom I’ve come to know, trust and respect over many years. She has an excellent ability to explain cause and treatment. In my case, she’s taught me to understand my problem areas and how to strengthen and use my body more wisely to avoid recurrent problems. I’d recommend her to anyone with the assurance they’d be in excellent hands under her intuitive care.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on approach
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on approach to assessing and promoting wellness, using soft touch to an anatomical system known as the craniosacral system (CS) of the body. The CS system is a physiological system composed of the tissues (fascia) surrounding the brain and spinal cord. In craniosacral therapy, practitioners aim to enhance the natural healing processes of the body by releasing tension in the fascial membranes of the neuromuscular system. Current research is showing the potential benefits of craniosacral therapy. Visit www.upledger.com to review the latest evidence.
Some of the conditions people access craniosacral therapy for include: headaches, TMJ, spinal pain, fibromyalgia, attention deficit disorder, autism, chronic pain, dementia, orthopedic problems, head injury, chronic fatigue, and stress and tension problems. More research is being done to document the effects of craniosacral therapy.
While many health programs teach only the most basic concepts of how to examine and treat medical conditions, in her courses, Theresa Schmidt presents an integrated view of therapy that never treats just a ‘diagnosis’ or a single body part when not taking into consideration the whole person. She offers instruction of well researched and documented techniques, with hands on experiential opportunities that allow students to feel what’s happening in the tissues from both the practitioner’s and the patient’s perspective.
As our traditional western medical system begins to fail many people who do not respond well to drugs and surgery, these people will be looking for options that are less invasive and more gentle. Theresa’s vast understanding of myofascial release/ tissue mobilization, integrated neuromuscular re-education, and positional release techniques is demonstrated in her continuing education courses both live and online – injecting enough factual information to make learning interesting and enough humor to make it fun!!!

Therapeutic Touch® is a holistic, evidence-based therapy that incorporates the intentional and compassionate use of universal energy to promote balance and well-being.”
(From: http://therapeutic-touch.org/) Developed by Dr. Dolores Kreiger, RN, a nurse affiliated with New York University, Therapeutic Touch (TT) has been shown to be effective in numerous research studies around the world to increase hemoglobin content of the blood in recipients. Hemoglobin is the primary energy-carrying molecule of the body, the one that carries oxygen vital to life. When people talk about wanting to increase their energy, this is a wonderful way to do it! Continued studies are being conducted to show the effects of TT. It is used widely in hospitals around the world to ameliorate suffering and to bring compassion to people in need of healing.
INTEGRATED ENERGY THERAPY (IET)
Integrated Energy Therapy® (IET®) is one of the next generation – hands on
Integrated Energy TherapyPower energy therapy systems that get the “issues out of your tissues” for good! Developed at the Center of Being, by Stevan J. Thayer, IET uses the violet angelic energy ray, as brought to us through the nine Healing Angels of the Energy Field, to work directly with your 12 Strand Spiritual DNA. IET supports you in safely and gently releasing limiting energy patterns of your past, empowering and balancing your life in the present, and helps you to reach for the stars as you evolve into your future. We chose the term “Integrated” in our name to convey our healing vision of “integrating the pain of the past, into the power of the present, to bring about the joy of the future”. We have been privileged to see Integrated Energy Therapy live up to this vision.
Integrated Energy Therapy® is ideal for students wanting to begin an energy therapy practice, and also provides a wonderful complement to other holistic techniques such as Massage, Reiki, and Therapeutic Touch. While IET® is a perfect standalone energy therapy system, it is ideal to integrate IET® into sessions based on other holistic modalities as well as integrate the techniques of other holistic modalities into IET® sessions.” (From Learniet.com)
Wholistic, alternative and complementary therapies and spiritual healing practice as described in this website is not a substitute for medical care. If you have any health issues you should see your licensed medical provider or physician. Energy practitioners will not diagnose or recommend any form of medical treatment for health conditions. Spiritual healing such as Reiki, Therapeutic Touch®, Integrated Energy Therapy®, Shamanism, Meditation, Mindfulness, Craniosacral Therapy, and Spiritual Coaching are complements to your medical care. We believe the body can heal itself naturally, however, at times it needs extra help, physically, mentally or spiritually, to become balanced for optimal performance.
